Model Agencies

Do you want to be a fashion runway model?  Are you dreaming for that day when you are featured in an ad?  Do you want to see yourself in the pages of some of the most popular magazines in the country?  Well, being a model is a great job.  For one, the pay is quite attractive, the environment exciting and the popularity and admiration are just some of the added perks.  However, you cannot become a model on your own.  You need the help of model agencies.

Model agencies act on behalf of the fashion models that are in their roster.  When you sign a contract with them, you provide them with the right to set up appointments and casting calls for you.  In return, they will be earning some commission on your modeling fee.

Model agencies work with fashion designers and advertising agencies and provide them with the models that they need.  To do this, the agencies work to develop their models’ talents.  They may even spend on helping to train models so that they learn to walk and stand right.  They may also ensure that the portfolios created by the agents show off all their assets.

As an aspiring model, you will have to find yourself a reputable model agency.  This will help you get into the fashion industry faster.  Model agencies help find jobs for the models, as well as do the billing and collection.  This way, you as a model can concentrate on doing your job (as a model), leaving the nitty-gritty and the details to the agency.

Of course, agencies also have strict requirements for their models.  For one, the model should be professional and should exhibit the right work ethic.  Models should never be late.  Punctuality is important since it indicates that the agency has models that the clients can depend on.   The model should also be ready to be on the job, even at a moments’ notice.  Sometimes, clients have emergencies during their fashion shoots and the model agency helps with the emergencies by providing models as quickly as they can.  Because of this, a model agency may also sometimes operate for 24 hours in a day.

Another requirement that agencies ask of their clients is that they have the right look and body type.  In fact, agencies do not allow their models to go over a specified weight and size.  There are also height requirements as well.  For male models, they should be between 5’11” and 6’3”.  For female models, they should stand at 5’7” to 5’11”.

When choosing from among the many modeling agencies in the industry, it is important that you sign yourself up with one that has a good reputation.  Believe me, there are a lot of scams in this industry.   Unscrupulous agents will try to exploit their models or prey on them.  When an agency is reputable, it means that they have ready contacts with key people in the industry – graphic designers, photographers and fashion houses.  A model agency is important when you want to enter the modeling business, as well as to make your way to the top.
